Background. International studies prove the high burden of mental illnesses among refugees. Postmigration stressors in the country of refugemay affect themental health and result in depression. Objectives. The study examines whether postmigration stressors are associated with the prevalence of depressive symptoms among adult refugees in Germany. Methods. Secondary data analysis based on cross-sectional data of the IAB-BAMF-SOEP Survey of Refugees 2016 (N= 4465) that is representative for Germany. Depressive symptoms were measured using the Patient Health Questionnaire-2 (PHQ-2). Unadjusted and adjusted odds ratios (ORs) and confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated with binary logistic regression models to examine associations between depression and sociodemographic, postmigration, and psychosocial factors. Results. Depressive symptoms show 19.4% of the surveyed refugees. Almost all selected postmigration stressors are significantly associated with depression after adjustment for sociodemographic and psychosocial factors. Unemployment (aOR= 1.48 [1.04-2.12]), loneliness (aOR= 1.14 [1.10-1.18]), and a rejected or undecided asylum application (aOR= 1.34 [1.06-1.70]) increase the odds of depressive symptoms, whereas asylum interviews (aOR= 0.71 [0.56-0.91]) and higher housing satisfaction (aOR= 0.94 [0.91-0.98]) lower the odds of depression. Conclusions. Postmigration stress is associated with the occurrence of depressive symptoms. Sociopolitical interventions considering stressful and protective factors of the postmigration phase can reduce the burden of mental disorders in refugee populations.

The tumor suppressor transcription factor CCAAT enhancer-binding protein alpha (C/EBP alpha) expression is down-regulated in myeloid leukemias and enhancement of C/EBP alpha expression induces granulocytic differentiation in leukemic cells. Previously we reported that Styryl quinazolinones induce myeloid differentiation in HL-60 cells by upregulating C/EBP alpha expression. To identify more potent molecule that can induce leukemic cell differentiation we synthesized and evaluated new series of styryl quinazolinones, ethynyl styryl quinazolinones, styryl quinolinones and thienopyrimidinones. Thienopyrimidinones were found toxic and styryl quinolinones were found inactive. Ethynyl styryl quinazolinone 39 and styryl quinazolinone 5 were found active on par with the earlier reported analogues 1 and 2 suggesting that the 5-nitro furan-2-yl styryl quinazolinones find a real promise in leukemic cell differentiation. The improved potency of 5 suggested that further modifications in the 5-nitro furan-2-yl styryl quinazolinones can be at the phenyl substitution at the 3-position of the quinazolinone ring apart from the 5-position of the heteroaryl ring.

In this study a novel, effective and recoverable Cu(II)-catalyst was synthesized by incorporating of Cu(OAc)(2) within ethanolamine-triazine derivative (TAETA) attached to chitosan (Chs)-functionalized gamma-Fe2O3 nanoparticles [MNP@Chs/TAETACu(II)]. It was characterized by different techniques such as FT-IR, EDS, ICP, TEM, TGA and VSM. The as-prepared nanocomposite demonstrated high oxidation activity and desired selectivity in the aerobic oxidation of structurally diverse set of benzyl alcohols. Spectral results and leaching experiments revealed that this magnetically recoverable heterogeneous catalyst preserved its structure after it was reused several times. This protocol offers some beneficial features such as the use of oxygen as an ideal oxidant, stability of nanocomplex, easily catalyst separation by using an external magnetic field and efficient recycling as well as the lack of by-products. Homogeneous cationic gold(i) catalysis emerged as a preferred avenue for the activation of alkenes and alkynes towards reactions with weak nucleophiles, especially in cyclization reactions. Here we report an intramolecular carboalkoxylation reaction of electron-rich benzyl ethers of 2-ethynylaryl phenols catalysed by a digold(i)-NHC complex. The reaction proceeds efficiently with low catalyst loading and the resulting 2,3-disubstituted benzofurans form in moderate to good yields. Based on the results of a cross-over experiment, spectroscopic data, and DFT calculations, we propose a mechanism that accounts for the observed chemo- and regioselectivity.

We report a set of electrochemically regulated protocols for the divergent synthesis of ketones and beta-keto esters from the same beta-hydroxycarboxylic acid starting materials. Enabled by electrochemical control, the anodic oxidation of carboxylic acids proceeded in either a one-electron or a two-electron pathway, leading to a 1,4-aryl transfer or a semipinacol-type 1,2-group transfer product with excellent chemoselectivity. The 1,4-aryl transfer represents an unprecedented example of carbon-to-oxygen group transfer proceeding via a radical mechanism. In contrast to previously reported radical group transfer reactions, this 1,4-group transfer process features the migration of electron-rich aryl substituents. Furthermore, with these chemoselective electrochemical oxidation protocols, a range of ketones and beta-keto esters including those possessing a challenging-to-access medium-sized ring could be synthesized in excellent yields.

The generation of a methyl carbon source from renewable and cheap sources is challenging. Herein, we describe a novel and an efficient route for methylation and acetylation of aza-heteroarenes using PEG-400 under O-2 and TsOH center dot H2O for the first time by tuning the reaction conditions using a different set of starting materials. The key features of the current protocol are oxidative C-O and C-C bond scission under metal-free conditions with good functional group tolerance, and a broad substrate scope. The potential applicability of the designed methodology was demonstrated for the synthesis of central nervous system (CNS) depressant and anticonvulsant drug molecules by a one-pot strategy.

A CF3SO2Na/Pd(OAc)(2) co-catalysis strategy was developed to produce aryl ketones via visible-light-induced decarboxylative cross-coupling of alpha-oxocarboxylic acids and aryl boronic acids. This process was performed under air at room temperature, furnishing aromatic ketones in moderate to good yields. Various sensitive functional groups were well tolerated in this reaction. A synergistic catalytic mechanism involving O-2 was also proposed based on the experimental observations.
