In view of the disadvantages of concentration polarization and trade-off effects in the application of membrane in desalination field, oxide-nano graphene oxide/polyamide (O-NGO/PA) loose intermediate layer and PA ultra-thin dense layer were introduced to fabricate PA/O-NGO/polyphenylene sulfide composite membrane with sandwich structure via multi-step interfacial polymerization (MS-IP) method. The selective permeation mechanism of ultrathin layer produced by different aqueous monomers (PIP and MPD) was studied, the effect of its physicochemical structure on the relief of concentration polarization phenomenon and the breakthrough of trade-off effect was analyzed. The ultra-thin and dense PA layer mainly played the role of interception and shortened the water molecular penetration path. In the retention test of metal salt solution, compared with the rough surface, it was found that the smooth surface was more conducive to the diffusion of intercepted metal ions into the feed solution, thus alleviating the concentration polarization phenomenon.

10,10-Bis[4-(4-aminophenoxy)-3-methylphenyl]-9(10H)-anthrone, as a novel aromatic diamine, was synthesized from anthrone by three-step process. A series of polyimides containing methyl substituents and 9(10H)-anthrone pendant groups was prepared from this diamine with various aromatic dianhydridesviathe poly(amic acid) (PAA) precursors and subsequent thermal or chemical imidization procedure. Inherent viscosities of PAAs are between 0.87 and 1.58 dL/g, and the corresponding polyimides have the weight-average molecular weight and number-average molecular weight in the range of 49,400-64,200 and 28,700-37,700, respectively. Most of the polyimides obtained through the chemical cyclodehydration method are soluble in NMP, DMF, DMAc, Py andm-cresol at room temperature. These polyimides have glass transition temperatures of 289-313 degrees C, 10% weight loss temperatures of 484-524 degrees C, char yields of 55-63% at 800 degrees C, and temperature at the maximum-rate degradation of 560-584 degrees C in nitrogen, respectively. The polyimide films obtained through the thermal imidization have tensile strength of 76.43-119.74 MPa, elongation at break of 6.93-12.33%, and tensile modulus of 1.91-2.38 GPa.

Novel 2-amino-7-methyl-4-aryl-3-(phenylsulfonyl) pyrano[4,3-b]pyran-5(4H)-one derivatives containing both biologically active pyran and chromene templates are synthesized via one-pot three-component condensation of aromatic aldehydes, 4-hydroxy-6-methyl-2H-pyran-2-one and phenylsulfonylacetonitrile in the presence of nano kaolin/TiCl4 as an efficient and recyclable acid catalyst. Many instrumental techniques including TEM, FE-SEM, and EDX, confirmed the structure of applied nano kaolin supported titanium tetrachloride. The proposed approach has some advantages as excellent yields, mild reaction conditions, eco-friendly, ease of work-up, survival of different functional groups and short reaction times.

Sea grape (Caulerpa racemosa) is an edible green alga which contains a high amount of protein with a seafood flavor, which can be released via protein hydrolysis. Our present work was designed to determine the optimal concentration of palm sugar and carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) in sea grape protein hydrolysate sauce. The process optimization was performed to evaluate multiple parameters such as viscosity, color properties, and hedonic score. Five different levels of palm sugar and CMC were designed using a central composite design to yield sauce with a maximum hedonic score. We developed different mathematical models in this work, where viscosity, color properties (L*, a*, b*), and hedonic score were modeled using 2FI (two-factor interaction), quadratic, and linear models, respectively. The numerical optimization revealed that the predicted optimal solution was palm sugar and CMC concentration with generated viscosity, L*, a*, b*, and hedonic score of 0.893 poise, 23.296, 7.300, 19.565, and 3.522, respectively, and a desirability value of 0.839. GC-MS data associated with referred information represented that sea grape sauce had four compounds with a typical seafood flavor, namely, nonanal, hexanal, (E)-2-octenal, and octanoic acid; some native palm sugar flavors; and Maillard reaction products (MRP). Our study suggests that sauce is a potential value-added product from sea grape protein hydrolysate.

MgO has been shown to catalyze an almost quantitative hydrogen transfer from 2-octanol as the hydrogen donor to benzophenone to form benzhydrol, a useful intermediate product in the pharmaceutical industry. The hydrogen transfer from a series of alcohols to the carbonyl group of benzophenone, its ten derivatives, four polycyclic ketones, and 2-naphthyl phenyl ketone was carried out in liquid (LP) or vapor phase (VP). The dependence of reactivity on the structure of the hydrogen donor, reaction temperature, donor-acceptor ratio, amount of catalyst, and the type and position of substituents has been established. For both reaction modes, optimal conditions for selective synthesis of the alcohols were determined and side reactions were investigated. The results indicate that the reactivity of the ketone is suppressed by the presence of a methyl substituent in the ortho position to a much greater extent in LP mode. A scale-up was demonstrated in the liquid phase mode.

Chiral polyureas of cinchona alkaloids were synthesized via repetitive Mizoroki-Heck (MH) coupling reaction. The Pd-catalyzed polycondensation of cinchona urea dimers6and aromatic diiodide7afforded the chiral polyureas (P1-P4). The catalytic activity of the chiral polymers was subsequently investigated. The asymmetric Michael addition of ketoesters to nitroolefins was successfully catalyzed by the polymeric organocatalysts (P1-P4) to give the corresponding Michael adducts with high catalytic activities and excellent enantionselectivities (up to >99% ee). The polymeric catalysts were insoluble in commonly used organic solvents. They were easily recovered and reused several times without any loss of the catalytic activity.

A series of 4,5-diphenyl-7H-thieno[2 ‘,3 ‘:3,4]pyrido[2,1-b]quinazolin-7-ones was synthesized via the Rh(iii)-catalyzed annulation of 2-thienylquinazolin-4(3H)-ones with diphenylacetylene. 2-Phenylquinazolin-4(3H)-one amide alcoholysis and double C-H functionalization proceeded under the same reaction conditions with the formation of 2,3,7,8-tetraphenyl-1H-benzo[d,e][1,8]-naphthyridine derivatives. All compounds possess fluorescence properties in MeCN and toluene solutions as well as in the solid state. The aggregation induced emission (AIE) properties and the ability to detect Fe3+ cations were evaluated.

The present experiment was conducted to determine whether, during periods of negative energy balance, the increase in glucose availability, despite similar DMI and greater milk production, induced by a combined supplement of folic acid and vitamin B-12 was related to effects of insulin on metabolism. Sixteen multiparous Holstein cows averaging 45 days in milk (standard deviation: 3) were assigned to 8 blocks of 2 animals each according to their milk production (45 kg/d; standard deviation: 6) during the week preceding the beginning of the experiment. Within each block, they received weekly intramuscular injections of either saline (CON) or folic acid and vitamin B-12 (VIT) during 5 consecutive weeks. During the last week, the cows were fed 75% of their ad libitum intake during 4 d. Blood samples were taken the morning before starting the feed restriction and on the third day of feed restriction. On the fourth day of feed restriction, the daily meal was not served and an intravenous glucose tolerance test was performed. During the 4 wk preceding the feed restriction, milk production and DMI were not affected by treatments. During the feed restriction, the vitamin supplement tended to decrease milk fat concentration and increase milk concentration of lactose. Plasma concentrations of homocysteine, Ile, Leu, Val, and branched-chain AA increased in VIT cows during the restriction but not in CON cows. During the glucose tolerance test, insulin peak height was lower and insulin incremental positive area under the curve tended to be lower for VIT than for CON [83 (95% confidence interval, CI: 64-108) vs. 123 (95% CI: 84-180) mu g.180 min/L, respectively]. Free fatty acid nadir was reached earlier for VIT than for CON [34 (95% CI: 26-43) vs. 46 (95% CI: 31-57) min, respectively]. Glucose area under the curve, clearance rate and peak height, insulin time to reach the peak and clearance rate, and free fatty acid nadir did not differ between VIT and CON. The reduction in insulin release during a glucose tolerance test without changes in glucose clearance rate or area under the curve suggests that the vitamin supplement improved insulin sensitivity in feed-restricted lactating dairy cows.

The present work comprises exploring the efficacies of the chiral organocatalysts employed in the classic Diels-Alder reaction between anthrone and maleimide in generating an enantioselective product. The complete mechanism of the reaction has been figured out by performing the electronic structure calculations at the density functional theory (DFT) level. Our calculations suggest that the reaction commences with the abstraction of acidic proton of anthrone instigated by organocatalysts, (S)-(-)-N-(methyl-2 ‘-pyridyl)-2-(alpha-hydroxyethyl)benzimidazole [Pyr-HEB] and (S)-(-)-N-(methyl-1 ‘-benzotriazolyl)-2-(alpha-hydroxyethyl)benzimidazole [Btz-HEB]. Subsequently, N-methyl maleimide interacts with the nucleophilic carbon of anthrone in a stepwise pathway, either from left-hand side or right-hand side, resulting in the generation of an enantioselective chiral product. A unique feature in the above reaction was that Pyr-HEB and Btz-HEB favoured the formation of SS-product and RR-product, respectively, with high enantioselectivity. The turnaround of enantioselectivity upon changing the catalyst has been attributed to the noncovalent interaction and steric orientation in the molecule during the intermediate reaction steps. An estimated value of degree of enantioselectivity, for both the catalysts, was obtained in accordance with the experimental findings.
