Due to the redox properties closely related to numerous physiological and pathological processes, biothiols, including cysteine (Cys), homocysteine (Hcy) and glutathione (GSH), have received considerable attention in biological science. On account of the important physiological roles of these biothiols, it is of profound significance to develop sensitive and selective detection of biothiols to understand their biological profiles. In this work, we reported an efficient fluorescent probe, PHPQ-SH, for detecting biothiols in vitro and vivo, based on the phenothiazine-HPQ skeleton, with DNBS (2,4-dinitrobenzenesulfonate) as the response unit. Probe PHPQ-SH exhibited brilliant sensing performances toward thiols, including a large Stokes shift (138 nm), excellent sensitivity (for GSH, LOD = 18.3 nM), remarkable fluorescence enhancement (163-fold), low cytotoxicity, rapid response (8 min), and extraordinary selectivity. Finally, the probe PHPQ-SH illustrated herein was capable of responding and visualizing biothiols in MCF-7 cells and zebrafish.

It is found that free radicals of (OH)-O-center dot would be generated in KOH solutions at elevated temperatures according to the results of fluorescence analysis. Five kinds of radical inhibitors (tert-butylphenol-containing reagents, 4-amino-tempo, benzophenone, phenothiazine and N-phenyl-1-naphthylamine) were employed as the dopant, separately, to prepare anion exchange membranes (AEMs) based on poly(4-vinylbenzylchloride-styrene). The investigaions on the properties of the prepared AEMs indicate that more radicals might be produced during the degradation of the AEMs via chain propagation reactions. Moreover, the influences of the radical inhibitors on the degradation of the AEMs in 8 M KOH solutions at 80 degrees C are quite different although all these inhibitors could react with (OH)-O-center dot radicals. Therein the radical inhibitors o-, m-, p-tert-butylphenols could effectively enhance the chemical stability of the AEMs. However, when the phenol-containing inhibitors have a large substituent group in its benzene ring, the membranes tend to be brittle during the stability test.

Background: Nivolumab was the first immune checkpoint inhibitor approved for previously treated advanced nonesmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Before its introduction in the market, nivolumab was made available to NSCLC patients through an expanded access program (EAP). Here we present the Italian cohort of patients with non-squamous NSCLC enrolled in a worldwide nivolumab EAP, with subgroup analyses involving elderly patients, patients with central nervous system (CNS) metastases and patients receiving nivolumab beyond progression. Methods: Pretreated patients with advanced non-squamous NSCLC received nivolumab at 3 mg/kg every 2 weeks up to 24 months. Efficacy data (investigator-assessed tumour response, progression date and survival) and safety data were collected. Findings: 1588 patients were treated across 153 Italian centres. Overall response rate and disease control rate were 18% and 44%, respectively; median overall survival (OS) was 11.3 months (95% CI: 10.2-12.4). Elderly patients (>= 70 n = 522; >= 75 n = 232) achieved outcomes similar to the global study population; patients with CNS metastases (n = 409) had an OS of 8.6 months (95% CI: 6.4-10.8), and a 1-year OS rate of 43%. Nivolumab was administered beyond progression to 276 patients (26%), 57 of whom achieved subsequent disease control; the median OS of patients receiving nivolumab beyond progression was 16.2 months (95% CI: 14.0-18.4), while 1-year OS rate was 62%. Interpretation: To date, this is the largest clinical experience with nivolumab in a real-world setting. Soft ionic conductors, such as hydrogels and ionogels, have enabled stretchable and transparent ionotronics, but they suffer from key limitations inherent to the liquid components, which may leak and evaporate. Here, novel liquid-free ionic conductive elastomers (ICE) that are copolymer networks hosting lithium cations and associated anions via lithium bonds and hydrogen bonds are demonstrated, such that they are intrinsically immune from leakage and evaporation. The ICEs show extraordinary mechanical versatility including excellent stretchability, high strength and toughness, self-healing, quick self-recovery, and 3D-printability. More intriguingly, the ICEs can defeat the conflict of strength versus toughness-a compromise well recognized in mechanics and material science-and simultaneously overcome the conflict between ionic conductivity and mechanical properties, which is common for ionogels. Several liquid-free ionotronics based on the ICE are further developed, including resistive force sensors, multifunctional ionic skins, and triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs), which are not subject to limitations of previous gel-based devices, such as leakage, evaporation, and weak hydrogel-elastomer interfaces. Also, the 3D printability of the ICEs is demonstrated by printing a series of structures with fine features. The findings offer promise for a variety of ionotronics requiring environmental stability and durability.

In the present study, a facile technique to immobilize praseodymium(iii) complex on the surface of magnetic nanoparticles by using available materials is reported. The prepared samples were characterized by chemical and physical methods such as FTIR, SEM, XRD and EDX and were tested in the synthesis of polyhydroquinoline and 2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-one derivatives. It was observed that the yields of the reactions in the presence of the prepared nanocatalyst were good to excellent. More importantly, the use of a recoverable and novel magnetic nanocatalyst in these reactions is the outstanding feature of this protocol.
