The oxidation of hydrocarbons to produce high value-added compounds (ketones or alcohols) using oxygen in air as the only oxidant is an efficient synthetic strategy from both environmental and economic views. Herein, we successfully synthesized cobalt single atom site catalysts (Co SACs) with high metal loading of 23.58 wt.% supported on carbon nitride (CN), which showed excellent catalytic properties for oxidation of ethylbenzene in air. Moreover, Co SACs show a much higher turn-over frequency (19.6 h(-1)) than other reported non-noble catalysts under the same condition. Comparatively, the as-obtained nanosized or homogenous Co catalysts are inert to this reaction. Co SACs also exhibit high selectivity (97%) and stability (unchanged after five runs) in this reaction. DFT calculations reveal that Co SACs show a low energy barrier in the first elementary step and a high resistance to water, which result in the robust catalytic performance for this reaction.

In this paper, several Mn(I) complexes were applied as catalysts for the homogeneous hydrogenation of ketones. The most active precatalyst is the bench-stable alkyl bisphosphine Mn(I) complexfac-[Mn(dippe) (CO)(3)(CH2CH2CH3)]. The reaction proceeds at room temperature under base-free conditions with a catalyst loading of 3 mol % and a hydrogen pressure of 10 bar. A temperature-dependent selectivity for the reduction of alpha,beta-unsaturated carbonyls was observed. At room temperature, the carbonyl group was selectively hydrogenated, while the C=C bond stayed intact. At 60 degrees C, fully saturated systems were obtained. A plausible mechanism based on DFT calculations which involves an inner-sphere hydride transfer is proposed.

Background Pyrazoles have attracted particular attention due to the diverse biological activities associated with this heterocyclic system, and some have been shown to be cytotoxic to several human cell lines. Several drugs currently on the market have this heterocycle as the key structural motif, and some have been approved for the treatment of different types of cancer. Results 4,4MODIFIER LETTER PRIME-(Arylmethylene)bis(1H-pyrazol-5-ols) derivatives 3a-q were synthetized by a three components reaction of 3-methyl-1-phenyl-5-pyrazolone (1) with various benzaldehydes 2 catalyzed by sodium acetate at room temperature. The structures of all synthesized compounds were characterized by physicochemical properties and spectral means (IR and NMR) and were evaluated for their radical scavenging activity by DPPH assay and tested in vitro on colorectal RKO carcinoma cells in order to determine their cytotoxic properties. All 4,4MODIFIER LETTER PRIME-(arylmethylene)bis(1H-pyrazol-5-ols) derivatives 3a-q were synthetized in high to excellent yield, and pure products were isolated by simple filtration. All compounds have good radical scavenging activity, and half of them are more active than ascorbic acid used as standard. Conclusion Several derivatives proved to be cytotoxic in the RKO cell line. In particular, compound 3i proved to be a very potent scavenger with an IC50 of 6.2 +/- 0.6 mu M and exhibited an IC50 of 9.9 +/- 1.1 mu M against RKO cell. Autophagy proteins were activated as a survival mechanism, whereas the predominant pathway of death was p53-mediated apoptosis.

Voltammetric sensor using a symmetrical derivative of anthrone3 (1,7-diamino-3,9-dibutyl benzo[1,2,3-de:4,5,6-d’e’]diquinoline-2,8(3H,9H)-dione) (SPE-A) has been developed as a probe for Hg(II) ions. Performance of the probe as screen-printed electrode modified with the receptor (SPE-A) has been compared with anthrone3 in solution phase, using 1:1 water-acetonitrile solvent system. Anthrone3 displayed an electrochemically quasi-reversible nature in voltammograms with both the systems and is presented as a novel disposable voltammetric sensor for mercury ions. Upon interaction with cations, both the electrode systems showed sensitivity towards Hg2+ ions with a lower detection limit of 0.61 mu M. The magnitude of the voltammetric current with the SPE-A exhibited three times the current obtained with a bare glassy carbon electrode (GC). Kinetic performance of the SPE-A electrode is better than the GC electrode. The morphological studies indicate reusability of the electrodes.

Sample introduction method was studied to reduce the extra-column effect in reversed-phase HPLC. Slow transport of a sample band (SToSB) in the pre-column space followed by the introduction of the band into the column at a near-optimum flow rate resulted in larger plate counts for a 1.0 mmID, 5 cm long column as much as 1.4-1.6 times for solutes with a retention factor (k) of 0.5-1.8 compared to a conventional elution method. Further reduction of the extra-column effect was possible by orthogonally splitting the sample band (SplSB) by flow switching during its slow transport followed by the introduction of the leading part of the band into the column. In this case, increased plate counts of up to 2-3 times for solutes with k of 0.5-1.8 were observed for a 1.0 mmID, 5 cm column. The sample introduction method, SToSB in the injector and the pre-column tube of a few mu L, was found to reduce the extra-column band variance by 0.4-0.5 mu L-2 for an UHPLC system with the extra-column volume (V-extra) of ca. 4.6 mu L and the system variance (sigma(2)(extra)) of 1.1 mu L-2 at flow rate of 100 mu L/min, while SToSB and subsequent SplSB were found to be more effective, reducing sigma(2)(extra) by about 0.8 mu L-2. With an UHPLC instrument with V(extra )of about 10 mu L and sigma(2)(extra) of ca. 3.6 mu L-2 at flow rate of 300 mu L/min, 1.4-2.1 times as many plate counts were observed with SToSB and SplSB compared to the normal elution method for early-eluting solutes with k=0.25-1.7 for a column, 2.1 mmID, 5 cm long. Background Accurate sentinel lymph node (SLN) staging is essential for both prognosis and treatment in patients with breast cancer. However, the preoperative lymphoscintigraphy may fail to visualize the SLN in some patients. The purpose of this retrospective study was to identify risk factors associated with SLN nonvisualization on lymphoscintigraphy. For this single-center retrospective study, all data of lymphoscintigraphy of SLN procedures from March 2011 to April 2021 were collected and reviewed from the Amsterdam UMC database. Results A total of 1886 SLN procedures were included in this study. The SLN nonvisualization rate was 25.1% on lymphoscintigraphy at 4 h post-injection. The SLN nonvisualization rate decreased to 9.4% after reinjection. Multivariable analysis showed that age >= 70 years (P < 0.001; OR: 2.27; 95% CI: 1.46-3.53), BMI >= 30 kg/m(2) (P = 0.031; OR: 1.48; 95% CI: 1.04-2.12) and nonpalpable tumors (P = 0.004; OR: 1.54; 95% CI: 1.15-2.07) were independent predictors of SLN nonvisualization. Tumor location, brand of radiopharmaceutical, injected dose and volume, experience of preparer and administrator were not associated with SLN nonvisualization. None of the patient, tumor or tracer characteristics were associated with SLN nonvisualization after radiotracer reinjection. Conclusions This study shows that risk factors for SLN nonvisualization in breast cancer patients during preoperative lymphoscintigraphy are age >= 70 years, BMI >= 30 kg/m(2) and nonpalpable tumors. Our results support the notion that SLN lymphoscintigraphy is a very robust technique that does not depend on the experience of the preparer or administrator of the radiotracer.

The application of phenylurea herbicides (PUHs) may lead to the extensive distribution in soils, while the role of straw biochar as a soil amendment on the transport and sorption of PUHs are still unclear. Thus, the transport and sorption behavior of three typical PUHs with rice straw biochar (RSB) was studied in both adsorption simulation experiments of aqueous solution and packed column experiments:the sorption mechanism of RSB to herbicides was investigated through batch sorption studies with three influencing factors including dosage of RSB, pH, and ionic strength (IS) with orthogonal test. The sorption coeff icients were improved significantly by increasing the dosage of RSB, while there was no obvious influence by enhancing the pH and IS value. The optimal sorption conditions (pH value at 3, IS at 0.1 M, and RSB dosage at 60 mg) of three herbicides were set and the maximum removal rates of Monuron, Diuron, and Linuron were 41.9%, 25%, and 56.8%, respectively. The co-transport process of RSB and PUHs were investigated under different RSB dosage, pH value, and IS value. The retention effect increased greatly with enhancing the RSB dosage and pH value. However, IS did not have a significant influence on the retention of RSB, and therefore it had little effect on the adsorption capacity, which was consistent with the results of sorption experiments. The breakthrough curves (BTCs) for co-transport were well simulated by the two-site non-equilibrium convection-dispersion equation (CDE). Most of the regression coefficients (R-2) were above 0.99, which uncovered the co-transport in packed column were affected by physical absorption and chemical forces. According to the fitting parameters analysis, the RSB particles and PUHs were subjected to a greater resistance and a stronger stability by reducing pH value in porous media. The presence of RSB increased the amount of dynamic sorption sites in the entire co-transport system, which led to a significant promotion of the PUHs’ sorption and interception. Although synthetic antioxidants (AOs) and photoinitiators (PIs) are known to be used in printing inks, there are little data on residual concentrations in printing paper products. In the present study, twenty-five PIs, ten AOs, and six transformation products were analyzed in two types of printing paper products, magazines and paperboard food packaging materials, both of which are unavoidable everyday products in our life. Nine AOs and six transformation products can be detected in food packaging materials with total concentrations (geometric mean, GM) of 1.16 x 10(4) ng/dm2. Twenty-two PIs were detected in food packaging materials with total concentrations (GM) of 1.76 x 10(4) ng/dm2. These chemicals were also detected in magazines, albeit at low concentrations (GM of AOs: 466 ng/dm(2), GM of PIs: 1.17 x 10(3) ng/dm(2)). Magazine front covers were found to have much higher concentrations of the target compounds than magazine inside pages. Tris(2,4-di-tert-butylphenyl) phosphate (AO168O), 2,6-di-tert-butyl-4-methylphenol (BHT), bisphenol A (BPA), and benzophenone (BP) were among the predominant chemicals in those printing paper products. Preliminary calculations suggest that dermal exposure to AOs (GM: 6.25 ng/day) and PIs (GM: 17.0 ng/day) via contact with printing paper products is a minor exposure pathway compared to food intake/dust ingestion and is exceedingly unlikely to cause adverse health effects.
