Using green chemical method a series of fifteen systematically substituted 3-(9-substituted anthracen-10-yl)-1-(4-phenyl substituted)prop-2-en-1-one derivatives having high nonlinear absorption coefficient have been synthesized. The nonlinear absorption properties of these compounds were studied using nanosecond pulses at 532 nm wavelength. All 15 derivatives are found to show high nonlinear absorption in the range of 35-640 cm/GW. Among these the derivatives with-NO2 as one of the substitution group show higher nonlinear absorption. The origin of high nonlinear absorption with low linear absorption in the compounds has been attributed to two-step two-photon absorption process. We have shown that the energy bands of these compounds are distributed such that for excitation at 532 nm they have strong nonlinear absorption. These properties of the reported compounds make them a potential candidate for biological imaging and other applications which are based on nonlinear absorption. (C) 2020 Elsevier B.V. Chiral hyperbranched polymers (HBP) containing cinchona alkaloids were synthesized using a Mizoroki-Heck (MH) coupling polymerization reaction between a cinchona squaramide dimer and tri- or tetrasubstituted aromatic iodides. This is a new type of polymeric chiral organocatalyst. We found that the as-obtained chiral HBPs show excellent catalytic activity in the asymmetric Michael reaction. Almost perfect enantioselectivity (>99% ee) was achieved in the reaction of beta-ketoester and trans-beta-nitrostyrene. The three-dimensional network structure of the chiral HBPs is structurally robust and can be reused for further reaction without any loss in their catalytic activity. (C) 2019 Elsevier Inc. Two photon (TP) fluorescence bioimaging proves to be a powerful tool for biomarker detection and disease diagnosis. However, the probes possessing both good optical properties and biocompatibility are limited. Herein a novel scaffold based on the conjugate of coumarin and quinazolinone (CQ) exhibited brilliant TP fluorescence properties (action cross-section value Phi delta(max) = 299 GM and TP action cross section per molecular weight Phi delta(max)/MW = 0.83) in water. The fluorescence properties are mainly attributed to the enlarged conjugate structure by intramolecular hydrogen bond. The TP fluorescence can be easily switched via amide group modification-deprotection strategy to regulate the formation of hydrogen bond. As a proof of concept, CQ was further engineered with p-nitrobenzyl moiety to afford 2-(7-(diethylamino)-2-oxo-2H-chromen-3-yl)-3-(4-nitrobenzyl) quinazolin-4(3H)-one (NBCQ) for mitochondria nitroreductase (NTR) imaging in normoxia and hypoxia, which proved to be a sensitive and selective off-on NTR fluorescent probe.

Four categories of sulfonic acid functionalized fiber catalysts with different surface microenvironments were synthesized by covalent grafting using polyacrylonitrile fiber (PANF) as the support. After the effect of acid structure on catalytic activity has been investigated by Friedlander reaction, PAN(EOS)F was chosen for the synthesis of quinolines and coumarin derivatives with high yields and extensive substrate scope (51 examples) in ethanol or water. The effect of electrostatic microenvironment and solvent has been discussed, and a release-catch-release-catch catalytic pattern was proposed accordingly. Although the synthesis of novel N-heterocyclic molecules is extremely demanding as well as challenging, the involvement of toxic solvents often triggers environmental safety concerns, resulting in process-engineering challenges. Herein, we have demonstrated a rapid, environmentally benign and energy efficient scalable method for the synthesis of 2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-one by grinding in a mortar pestle as well as mechanochemically via ball milling using p-TSA catalyst. The ability to accomplish the reaction in the absence of solvent via grinding or milling with p-TSA catalyst, with an immediate reduction in the cost and operational procedures, features the significant advantages of this protocol. The scalability and significance of the operational parameters during mechanochemical milling in the tubular ball mill were also demonstrated. Excellent yield in short duration, large substrate scope, product scalability, and easy recoverability are the prime features of this mechanochemical solvent-free protocol for the synthesis of 2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-one. The study also demonstrated the significant role of ball diameter to improve the efficiency of the milling operation in this mechanochemical synthesis.

In the present work, we report the design and fabrication of a copper-containing ionic liquid supported magnetic nanocatalyst via a convenient and straightforward synthetic approach for the formation of 2-phenylquinazolin-4(3H)-ones using o-aminobenzamide and benzaldehydes as the reaction partners. The successful formation and properties of the as-prepared catalyst have been thoroughly investigated using diverse physico-chemical techniques including FT-IR, XRD, FE-SEM, TEM, ICP, VSM, BET and TGA. Using this nanocatalytic system, a variety of 2-phenylquinazolin-4(3H)-ones are synthesized in excellent yields with operational ease and short reaction times in an environmentally preferable solvent under open air and without using any external oxidizing agent. Besides, the catalyst possessed facile magnetic recoverability and remarkable reusability for six consecutive runs without any appreciable decrease in the catalytic efficiency.

A series of synthetically accessible ligands based on new 2-(R-sulfonamido)benzamide have been prepared (R = methyl for H3M; R = 4-toly for H3T and T2CN; R = 2,4,6-triisopropylphenyl for H(3)iP and HiPCN). The R-substituents were selected to vary in sizes. Allowing ligand H(3)iP and palladium acetate to stand in solvent leads to self-assembly of the well-defined solvent- and stoichiometry-controlled tetranuclear or hexanuclear coordination macromolecules Pd-4(iP)(2) and (PdHiP)(6), which were analysed by X-ray crystallography. It was observed that palladium active species for Suzuki coupling catalysis could be stabilized by these simple and synthetically assessable N-donor ligands as revealed by turnover frequencies reaching 5500h(-1). Understanding the physical mechanisms governing aggregation-induced-emission (AIE) and aggregation-caused-quenching plays a vital role in developing functional AIE materials. In this work, tetraphenylethene (TPE, a classical AIEgen) and naphthalimide (NI, a popular fluorophore with ACQ characteristics) were connected through non-conjugated linkages and conjugated linkages. We showed that the nonconjugated-linkage of TPE to NI fragments leads to substantial PET in molecular aggregates and ACQ. In contrast, the conjugated connection between TPE and NI moieties results in the AIE phenomenon by suppressing twisted intramolecular charge transfer. MgO has been shown to catalyze an almost quantitative hydrogen transfer from 2-octanol as the hydrogen donor to benzophenone to form benzhydrol, a useful intermediate product in the pharmaceutical industry. The hydrogen transfer from a series of alcohols to the carbonyl group of benzophenone, its ten derivatives, four polycyclic ketones, and 2-naphthyl phenyl ketone was carried out in liquid (LP) or vapor phase (VP). The dependence of reactivity on the structure of the hydrogen donor, reaction temperature, donor-acceptor ratio, amount of catalyst, and the type and position of substituents has been established. For both reaction modes, optimal conditions for selective synthesis of the alcohols were determined and side reactions were investigated. The results indicate that the reactivity of the ketone is suppressed by the presence of a methyl substituent in the ortho position to a much greater extent in LP mode. A scale-up was demonstrated in the liquid phase mode.
